Our mission at Little Green Bees is to help you become the best gardener you can be. Whether you are just starting out or are a highly experienced gardener, our hope is that you may find something in these pages to challenge and/or inspire you.
We believe that anyone can garden, given the correct resources. Tips, requests for information and constructive criticism are always welcome.

Hi there,
I saw your site and read your mission and was hoping you could help me, the most hapless gardener in the Southeast. We have a house in SW Pensacola, off Gulf Beach Hwy. For years, I have tried to do the square foot gardening thing in a really nice raised bed with lovely organic soil, but I have never been able to get anything to grow into an edible plant. I think the problem is that the backyard just doesn’t get enough hours of light a day (the front yard is off limits thanks to our Home Owners Association). Are there any shade loving edible plants that might fit in with the permaculture theme? We have had luck growing a couple of things: a lemon tree and a scuppernong vine. Unfortunately, we had to rent our house out for the last two years and my vine has disappeared and, when I last visited, lemon tree wasn’t bearing any fruit when it should have been. I don’t know what’s been going on in our absence. I think I am pretty much going to have to start from scratch. If you have any ideas for me, I would be so appreciative. I would love to turn the whole backyard into a huge garden, but I have no idea what I can make grow there!
Thanks,
Laurie

Becca, thanks for the post and link. I’m honored to be helping others learn about native bees in their backyards. How do we nudge people to do more than read? …PARTICIPATE in the fun is my request. Not for my company, but more for the north American pollination challenge we have going on.

Dave, you’re absolutely welcome! Love what you guys are doing and hope it keeps growing! We love our Mason bees and your site has encouraged me to give them more habitats (other than boring into our shed!!)
